Be joyful in hope . . .

Here I am in Scotland for my Christmas mini tour. Instead of singing, I am spending most of my time in bed. My sore throat turned into a cold which turned into 4 days of laryngitis. Whatever this illness is, it seems to be letting up very slowly. I have no idea when my voice will come back. I am hopeful that I will be able to sing by Saturday.

It’s tempting to analyze everything, ask God a million questions, and try to figure the reason for everything. But that kind of introspection is rarely helpful. I am learning that the best thing anyone can do when faced with adversity is look forward with hope.

We have a choice when faced with adversity: we can focus on everything that has gone wrong, or we can think about what has gone right and look forward to better days.

No matter what the journey has been like so far, our story is not over. We’re still breathing. God has a plan and we are a part of it. As a friend reminded me a few days ago, “we’re along for His ride . . .”

So, Lord, whatever your plan is, I embrace it. I trust you will not fail to do something beautiful in spite of this hiccup. Please lift my heart and enable me to rejoice in hope . . .

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. (Romans 12:12)

Better days will come. Hang in there, friends!

Your fellow traveler,

Stephanie
