Psalm 126, A New Year’s Prayer

2014 was a year of great joy and also of deep loss for many. It’s amazing how joy and sorrow seem to be intertwined in every season of life. Psalm 126 remind us that, no matter what our current situation may look like, God has a plan. He’s always working, even when we can’t see what he’s doing.

When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion,
we were like those who dream.
Then our mouth was filled with laughter,
and our tongue with shouts of joy;
then they said among the nations,
“The Lord has done great things for them.”
The Lord has done great things for us;
we are glad.

Restore our fortunes, O Lord,
like streams in the Negeb!
Those who sow in tears
shall reap with shouts of joy!
He who goes out weeping,
bearing the seed for sowing,
shall come home with shouts of joy,
bringing his sheaves with him.

What is true fortune? Not money, power, fame, or anything we can see with our eyes. True fortune is PEACE, JOY, STRENGTH . . .

My prayer for my loved ones and for all of you for this new year is that the Lord will restore peace, joy, strength, courage, and the desire to persevere. That he will fill us with his justice, honor, compassion, and humility. That he will be our “wonderful counselor” and do “great things.” That he will truly LIVE in and through each one of us.
