Farewell, Faithful Warrior! Tribute to Gwen Wilkerson

Around 11:30am EST today Gwen Wilkerson went to be with Jesus, her husband David, and her granddaughter Tiffany. Those who knew her are deeply saddened at her passing but we rejoice in knowing she is finally where she longed to be: in the arms of her Savior and reunited with her loved ones. We know this with certainty.

Her life was and is an example of faithfulness and trust. I will always be amazed that even when she was experiencing her own pain and suffering, she constantly concerned herself with the needs of others, lifting them up in prayer and sending or speaking words of comfort whenever she was able. She was a very special woman.

My favorite memory of her was listening to her play the “old” hymns on the piano. She was amazing and the presence of God was very strong as she played.

My prayers are now with her family as they mourn her passing and rejoice in her life—yes, she lives! She will never die again.

This afternoon I wrote a song in memory of Gwen and also of baby Luke, a precious little man who also went to be with Jesus a few days ago. Here are the lyrics:

Rest In Peace
July 5, 2012

Heaven touched the earth today
Jesus came to take you home
You knew it was coming, we knew you were longing
And You made it clear, you were ready to go

Reunited at last, with the love of your heart
Surrounding, applauding you
So faithful in life, still beautiful in death
We will always remember you

Oh the many lives you touched
With the sweetness of your soul
We’re so thankful you’re no longer hurting
At peace, you rest
Forever whole

Reunited at last, with the love of your heart
Surrounding, applauding you
So faithful in life, still beautiful in death
We will always remember you
We will always remember you

So rest in peace, rest in peace
Your light has come, you are home
So rest in love, rest in His love
New breath, new life are yours

Reunited at last, with the love of your heart
Surrounding, applauding you
So faithful in life, still beautiful in death
We will always remember you
We will always remember you

Please keep the Wilkerson’s (Gwen’s family) and the Garmon’s (Luke’s family) in your prayers in the days to come.
