I recently accepted a temporary worship leader position at a church in Dunwoody, Georgia. My first day leading was this past Sunday. As we were driving to the church, I couldn’t help thinking to myself, “Now, Lord? You want me to do this NOW?” If he had given me this job five years ago I would have felt ready—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I was stronger then. At least, I felt stronger.
The past five years have taken their toll on me—physically, especially. Yes, I’ve traveled the world and shared my music, got married, had a beautiful baby girl… but so much has happened in the “in between.” I wouldn’t even know where to begin if I started sharing it all. As I began to reflect on these things I began to realize that I’m probably stronger in faith now than I ever have been. I’ve had to learn to persevere, to praise, and to cling to hope in the midst of it all.
The fact is, we don’t have to feel ready or strong or extra spiritual in order to praise our God (the Psalms are proof of that); we just have to be willing. After all, praise is a time to lay aside who WE are and exalt who HE is. How we feel is irrelevant.
Regardless of my self-doubt and endless soul-searching on Sunday, the Lord carried me through. I trust he will continue to refresh my soul and enable me to bring refreshment to others as I lift my voice to him each week. I’m really looking forward to seeing what he will do in this season . . . good things are ahead, friends! Hold on to hope.

Oftentimes when the Lord calls us to a specific task (worship leader, Dunwoody, GA), He does as much for us personally as He does for those hearing our voice (or our cry). May Jesus continue to strengthen you, bless you, encourage you and use you as you’ve faithfully sought His will, followed His voice and rejoiced in His love. As my husband used to tell me in our early years of ministry, what you have experienced and are experiencing now will be used of God to prepare you (set the stage) for whatever is ahead of you. Be encouraged; He does all things well! After 50+ years of marriage and ministry, the principles still apply!! God is faithful!! Whew!!
