Invited

This morning I finished reading a book called, “Uninvited” by Lysa TerKeurst. It was a very thought provoking read and I would recommend it to anyone who feels they need healing from the pain of rejection.

One of the things the Lord did for me when I read this book was remind me of the truth of Psalm 28:6-8: “Blessed be the Lord! For he has heard my pleas for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. The Lord is the strength of his people; he is the saving refuge of his anointed.”

  • He hears us. He knows what is going on. He sees every little thing we are experiencing. We are not forgotten.
  • He will be our strength and our protector.

When we look for healing or acceptance or relief from any source other than Christ, we will find ourselves lacking. When we forget that God is our strength and that HE wants to shield us from the “fiery darts of the enemy,” whether those darts be the voices in our head that tell us we are worthless or “less than” others or the voices of others telling us we don’t measure up to their expectations, we will find ourselves in a deep pit of despair. Nothing and no one can ever protect us from the pain rejection inflicts. When we try to shield ourselves from the pain it never works. The shields we put up, emotionally or physically, just won’t cut it. But God can and will protect us from being destroyed / allowing ourselves to be destroyed by that pain. We are safe with him. The knowledge that God is faithful and true and loving and kind—even when others aren’t—and the hope that he will see us through and enable us to endure and even overcome whatever difficulties we are experiencing, that knowledge, is our shield. Faith.

  • Our heart can rejoice again.

When we allow ourselves to be shielded by God we will find our song again. I have had such a difficult time writing lately—the things I have been dealing with in my deepest soul are so painful, it’s as if I am afraid to sit down and let anything flow. But I am discovering that as I allow the Lord to do this work of healing in me, as I allow him to remind me of his love and acceptance, I can sing with joy. I know the songs will come as I continue to press into him.

  • We can and will find help in him. He is our refuge.

We can’t hide from reality but we CAN hide in the reality of our Savior. No matter what we are experiencing, no matter what others have spoken into our lives, or what the enemy tries to whisper into our souls, God is our refuge… his truth is what counts. And he can calm the storm in our heart and bring peace.

The Easter season reminds us every year that He is risen! And because of that truth, Romans 6 reminds us that “we too can walk in newness of life.” Don’t let anyone or anything or circumstance or any lie of the enemy keep you from walking in that freedom and life.

“But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings.” Malachi 4:2

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Romans 15:13

Keep pressing into the Savior. He has a purpose for your life. Don’t allow the enemy drag you into a pit of destruction and despair. Let Christ lift you up and fill you with his light and life so that others can see his goodness and mercy in your life.

Psalm 34 . . .

I sought the LORD, and he answered me
and delivered me from all my fears.

Those who look to him are radiant,
and their faces shall never be ashamed.

This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him
and saved him out of all his troubles.

. . .

The angel of the LORD encamps
around those who fear him, and delivers them.

Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good!
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!

. . .

The LORD is near to the brokenhearted
and saves the crushed in spirit.

. . .

The LORD redeems the life of his servants;
none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned.

. . .

“. . . he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name sake.” Psalm 23
