Still Waters

Track 09 3:13

This song was a balm for my ache. I never expected to record it. It is so personal (and so painful). But some folks heard a few verses and asked me to . . . so here it is. 26 years of writing songs, 40 years of trying to be faithful to the one who keeps singing them over me.

Lyrics

I have waited in the stillness
I have wrestled in the dark
I have held on to your promises
When the journey has been hard

I am tryin’ to count my blessings
Instead I’m wiping tears
Feeling lonely and forgotten
Like I’ve wasted all these years

Somehow I know you have a plan
That I may never understand

I have steadily moved forward
I have tried to keep the faith
When the walking turned to crawling
I leaned upon your grace

Now the victories feel like failures
Every song cuts like a knife
Has everything been nothing?
Am I losing the real fight?

Somehow I know you have a plan
That I may never understand

You’re leading me by those still still waters
This is the way of faith
And I may never be satisfied
on this side of the glass
But I’m trying

The tears may keep on falling
But I know you feel my pain
So I’ll lay aside these questions
Close my eyes and take you in

Somehow I know you have a plan
That I may never understand

You’re leading me by those still still waters
This is the way of faith
And I may never be satisfied
On this side of the glass
but I’m trying

Somehow I know you have a plan
that I may never understand

You’re leading me by those still still waters
This is the way of faith

Somehow I know you have a plan
That I may never understand
